Economic Seminar: Defence Budget Also to Be Discussed in Bled
24. January 2002
An economic seminar will take place in Bled on January 28 and 29
entitled Ten Years of Defence Management - Security and Stability in
Transition. The central theme of the meeting, organised by the
Ministry of the Economy in co-operation with the Economic Directorate
of NATO, will be regional, European and global dimensions of
transition viewed from a security perspective.
The economic seminar will be followed by a Membership Action Plan
workshop on the defence budget. It will cover a series of important
questions, such as whether the Ministry of Defence must change its
current system of managing funds and the form and structure of
reporting, and what has been less understandable, insufficiently clear
or even incomprehensible in past reports and whether it is necessary
to supplement these reports. In the working groups, participants will
also deal with the central points of the system of planning defence
resources, contributions to defence management and creating clear and
transparent planning processes. In particular, they will discuss
systems and challenges for planning resources and the use of defence
expenditures. The Slovene system of planning defence resources
contains all the elements required by NATO. Such workshops should
provide an answer to the question of how best to provide support for
the needs of the Defence Ministry, and create clear standpoints and
guidelines for preparing the report for the coming year.
