Conference on Security Policy
01-03 February, Munich
Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel and Defence Minister Anton
Grizold are to attend the 38th Munich Conference on Security Policy
between 1 and 3 February 2002.
Minister Rupel is to speak about international terrorism in Europe
and the world, while Minister Grizold's contribution to the debate is
to centre on new challenges for Euro-Atlantic security. Slovene
Foreign Minister Rupel is to present Slovenia's view of security and
political challenges after the 11 September terrorist attacks, the
Foreign Ministry said. He is to point out Slovenia's contribution, and
speak about the formation of a new partnership of countries and the
role of international organisations - particularly the UN, NATO and
the EU - in the fight against terrorism. He is also to point out the
importance of the Euro-Atlantic integration processes in the global
fight against terrorism.
Defence Minister Grizold, on the other hand, is to point out the
need for co-operation on national, regional and global levels in the
joint fight against new forms of threat in the modern world. On the
sidelines of the event, Rupel and Grizold are to meet with several
conference participants. For instance, Grizold is to meet with his
German counterpart Rudolf Scharping in a bid to discuss the situation
in SE Europe and the co-operation between the two countries in defence
and NATO enlargement.
