Summit of the NATO Aspirant Countries
"Riga 2002: The Bridge to Prague"
On July 5th and 6th, Riga, the capital of Latvia, will host a
Summit of the Prime Ministers of 10 European countries. This will be
the final meeting of the heads of government of NATO aspirant
countries before the decisive NATO Summit in Prague in November, when
the next round of NATO enlargement will be announced. The Summit of
the leaders of Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania,
Macedonia, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia will be the culmination of a
process of co-operation and co-ordination that began in May 2000 at
the first gathering of NATO aspirant countries in Vilnius.
