Slovenia has participated in the OSCE since March 1992 and it
directs considerable support in its foreign policy to the operation of
this organisation. Regarding the possibility for ensuring security,
the OSCE is different from organisations that are based on principles
of collective security (the UN) or collective defence (NATO).
Participation in the OSCE primarily ensures for Slovenia inclusion in
processes of strengthening security through the promotion of
cooperation, the strengthening of mutual trust and preventative
diplomacy.
