Anton Grizold Ph.D., Minister of Defence

On November 30, 2000, he was appointed Minister of Defense, Republic of Slovenia, in the government of Ph.D. Janez Drnovsek.

Education: Doctor of Defense Sciences, certified defense scientist, Professor of Sociology

Additional training abroad: two-month specialization in Security Studies at the University of Maryland (1987) two-month specialization (June 1986 and September 1994) in International Security Studies at the following universities: George Washington University, The University of New Mexico, Yale, Stanford University and the University of Georgetown Guest researcher at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University (July-December 1997)

Employment: Since 1980, a member of staff at the School of Social Sciences (former the School of Social and Political Science), University of Ljubljana. First employed as a program organizer, then as a teaching assistant and finally as a university instructor. Taught various courses: Defense and Security Systems, Comparative Defense Systems and Security in International Relations. Since 1999, Professor of Defense Sciences and Security in International Relations.

Research: Since 1983, head of various research projects, such as National Security of Slovenia, Senior Staff in the Republic of Slovenia Armed Forces, The Slovenian Soldier - Territorial Defense Members during the Armed Conflict in Slovenia, The Present and the Future of the Military Profession in Europe, European Security Integration

Administrative Responsibilities at the School of Social Sciences: 1986-1994, Department Chair of Defense Studies; 1991-1995, Vice Dean of Financial Affairs, 1992-present, Head of the Defense Studies Research Center

Government: Since 1999, President of the Strategy Council, Ministry of Defense, Republic of Slovenia

Publications: Author of over 100 scientific and popular articles on security, defense and the armed forces in peacetime in both local and international journals, collected papers and books. Author of four and co-author of two books: Militarization and the Military Industrial Complex (1990), International Security (1998), European Security (1999), The Defense System of the Republic of Slovenia (1999), Modern National Security Systems (co-author, 1999) and Superpower Security Policy (co-author, 2000).
