Brigadier Ladislav Lipic, Chief of General Staff Slovenian Armed Forces

Ladislav Lipic was born on November 30, 1951 in Murska Sobota. He studied at the School of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, where he received his BSc in Defense Studies. In the period from 1997 to 1990 he worked in the Murska Sobota Municipal Territorial Defense HQ as Assistant for Organizational and Mobilization Affairs. In the fall of 1990 he was assigned to the duty of Assistant to the Commander for Logistics, the region of Vzhodnostajersko, with the HQ in Maribor.

In 1994 he was appointed Commander of the Territorial Defense for the Vzhodnostajersko region. In November 1997 he became Chief of the Logistics Section of the Slovenian Armed Forces and in November 2000 he was appointed Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

Brigadier Ladislav Lipic was one of the initiators of the national protection in the Pomurje region and was awarded a MSNZ Badge which is awarded in recognition of participation in the organization of national protection ? Manevrska struktura narodne zascite MSNZ. In addition, he actively participated in the War for Independence of the Republic of Slovenia in 1991.

During the period mentioned above he commanded a very successful joint tactical exercise DRAVA 96. In 1998 he was Co-Director of the CAE 98 exercise, a joint NATO and PfP member countries exercise that took place in Slovenia. At the same time he was also Chief of Logistical Support of the exercise. As Head of seminar entitled: Logistics Information Exchange? that served as preparation for CAE 98 exercise and in cooperation with the USA Logistics Management Institute, he and his colleagues set the fundamentals that facilitate the implementation of tasks that pertain to role of an international exercise host nation.

He also completed the following military professional E&T programs: Course for the elements that deal with organizational and mobilization affairs, The Infantry Reserve Officer School, and Platoon Leader, Company Commander and Battalion Commander courses.

While in the Territorial Defense reserve component, he was platoon leader, company commander and battalion commander. In 1998 he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

On March 1st he has been appointed Chief of Staff of the Slovenian Army.

He received several appraisals and recognitions for his work.
