Participation of Slovene Police in Peacekeeping operations
Slovene police is participating in peacekeeping missions since
October 1997, when first police officer was deployed to the MAPE
mission in Albania upon the initiative of the National Assembly of the
Republic of Slovenia and by the decree issued by the Government of the
Republic of Slovenia. It is now participating in four missions,
currently the final preparations are running on for police officers
that will start their work on January 1st, 2003 in the new mission
EUPM (European Union Police Mission) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The legal base for participation of Slovene police in peacekeeping
missions is given by the Police Act, while the deployment of police
officers to concrete operations is based on individual decrees issued
by Slovene Government.
