The Referendum Campaign
In 2003 the Government Public Relations and Media Office is
continuing its activities in a public
awareness campaign dedicated to informing the public in Slovenia
and abroad about Slovenia's accession in NATO, and before the
referendum it increased its efforts in some regards.
In the final set of public discussions regarding inclusion in the
EU and NATO, the government decided to unite both campaigns under the
same slogan, "At home in Europe, secure in NATO," because
decision of Slovenia to access to both integrations - EU and NATO -
are connected and they unify Slovenia's foreign policy aspirations
into a whole.
The pre-referendum activities taking place under the new corporate visual identity are:
- Closer cooperation with the media: Assistance in securing
representatives for interviews, face-to-face meetings and roundtable
discussions, and providing additional information and materials;
- Informative publications (NATO after Prague
[Acrobat pdf, 1233 Kb], What is NATO [Acrobat pdf, 809 Kb] and At Home in Europe and secure
in NATO [Acrobat pdf, 1233 Kb]) and their widest
possible distribution;
- Informative promotional messages in the print media, radio and
TV
- publishing of the text of the North Atlantic Treaty, in the
national dailies;
- Co-financing the jointly produced broadcast of 17 regional
radio and 12 regional television stations, in which advocates and
opponents participate and present their points of view and arguments;
- Organising numerous public discussions around Slovenia;
- Promoting the major information sources (the
"Natofon" toll-free line, web site http://nato.gov.si, the
"Natonabiralnik" postal address), directing citizens to
sources where they can receive additional information about NATO and
the process of Slovenian accession to the Alliance.
