Slovenia's collaboration
The collaboration of Slovenia in the NATO Committee on the
Challenges of Modern Society (CCMS) is coordinated by the Ministry of
the Environment and Physical Planning. During 2001, experts from
Slovenia participated in seven different projects and activities of
the CCMS in the following areas: monitoring water quality, problems of
the revitalisation of polluted waters and the soil, clean production
processes and products, air pollution modelling and environmental
impact assessments. Taking part in these projects were experts from
Maribor University, the Jozef Stefan Institute, the Institute for
Health Protection, the Ministry of Defence and the Slovene Army, and
the Ministry of the Environment and Physical Planning and the Agency
of the Republic of Slovenia for the Environment.
The participation of Slovenia in 2002, will result in the expansion
of the list of CCMS activities with at least one new project in the
field of environmental impact assessment. The Faculty of Chemistry and
Chemical Technology from Maribor is preparing a research workshop
entitled "Technological Choices for Sustainability" which is
scheduled to take place in September 2002 in Maribor.
In 2002, Slovene experts attended the regular annual meeting of the
CCMS held in Brussels, as well as two workshops on:
- The factors which contribute to the creation of photo-oxidants in
Central and Eastern Europe
- The use of indicators in environmental assessment.
