Forms of contemporary security threats
Today we recognise threats to security in a number of forms of
non-military and military phenomena that reduce the security of
individuals, social groups, society as a whole, countries and the
international community. With the end of the Cold War, the possibility
for military conflict in Europe has been reduced, but because of this
many new armed conflicts have come to the fore on the margins of
Europe and on other continents. In addition to this, non-military
threats to security are becoming increasingly prominent, such as
criminality, terrorism, threats to the economy, threats to the
environment, natural and manmade disasters, threats to information
systems and so on. It has also been seen that, with every new level of
development, modern society is becoming increasingly vulnerable.
