Vienna: Albert Rohan, secretary-general in the Foreign Ministry,
advocated Austria's membership in NATO during a speech on Monday
evening [12 November]. In the sphere of security policy, it is "useful
to belong to all institutions and not to skip the most important
ones", Rohan stated. He spoke at an event organized by the Austrian
Society for Foreign Policy and International Relations and the
Austrian League for the United Nations on the issue "Does Austria Have
a Foreign Policy?"
Neutrality is "no longer an issue" and an "artificial obstacle to a
natural development" towards a Common Foreign and Security Policy,
Rohan stated.
